The Instructional Improvement Group (IIG) provides individual consultations about teaching and learning for full- and part-time faculty, graduate students, and postdoctoral scholars. We also consult with departments and schools/divisions about how to best support their teaching goals, and help plan and deliver pedagogical workshops for groups of instructors. Our work is evidence-based, and our team’s areas of expertise include: remote teaching and learning, inclusive teaching, syllabus and course design, assignment design, assessment, interactivity and student engagement, active learning, collaborative learning, and more. Consultations can also include the use and implementation of tools from the Bruin Learn learning ecosystem. In addition to consultations related to teaching strategies, we also offer support for instructors interested in exploring the effectiveness of their teaching (through reflection, student/peer feedback, and formal assessment) and for those interested in contributing to the scholarship of teaching and learning.

The Center for Educational Assessment (CEA) supports UCLA’s commitment to continuously improve undergraduate teaching and learning, and facilitates the campus’ responsiveness to new state and federal expectations for documenting educational effectiveness. In this context, CEA provides comprehensive institutional support to help faculty identify workable assessment strategies that facilitate the development of academic programs, quality of instruction, student learning, internal and external grant funding, and research publications. Through partnerships with administrators and researchers, on and off campus, CEA also serves as a resource for data and analyses that inform policy and planning while supporting accreditation review processes. Core to CEA’s mission is providing consultative support to faculty as they develop and implement meaningful, sustainable assessment initiatives to evaluate educational programs and the university experience more broadly.

CEA is here to serve UCLA faculty and administrators seeking to meet data and assessment needs, including consultation, survey design, and analysis.
